Of all the challenges consignment, resale and thrift shopkeepers face with merchandising their one-of-a-kind assortment of goods,
the absolute hardest thing to display is sets of china.
So I was delighted to discover a great photo of this idea, nestling small sets of china into a large basket:
What you’ll need:
- Big, sturdy baskets, preferably painted in pastels which will be most useful in matching up to china patterns
- Some “spare” linens: odd napkins, dresser scarves that aren’t saleable as is, even remnant ends of linen and cotton as accent to the display.
- Possibly, some packing paper to prop the china up to the level of the basket lip
Tucking a basket of china under an end table or next to an easy chair, rather than simply plopping it on a gondola shelf, allows you to have more selection, if your shop is as cramped as I think it probably is!
You’ll also need to decide: will you sell the basket? If so, be sure to price it at replacement cost… those sturdy baskets can sometimes be hard to find!
