Resale shop coupon in Welcome Baby Basket at TGtbT.comJudy asked: I have just contacted our community’s chamber of commerce with the idea of including a $5 Gift Certificate to my store for the “Welcome Baskets” which are given to Moms in our hospital –about 25 baskets every couple of weeks.

Does this make sense as a

Everyone is a winner with this consignment shop idea from TGtbT.comThere’s a “real” shop (you know, one which sells newly-manufactured stuff) that I really like. The owner doesn’t know from social media, she’s literally hidden on a street which is basically an alley, and I’ve never seen an ad for her shop.

But she makes a good go of it in her tiny shop. By making customers feel like they are

ALL WINNERS.

And how does she do that? Well, (more…)

Do you consider the work you do on social media to be

One and Done?

Nonsense. That Facebook post that got such great results, that Instagram that so perfectly represents your shop, even that photograph of your shop front that you altered in a graphics program; these are all

worthy of a replay.

Just as we make a business of reusing, repurposing, reimagining previously-enjoyed material things, we can

recycle the most effective of our outreach efforts.

If you like, create a special day to showcase past greats… like I do here on my blog with Deja Vuesdays.

Ideas ranged from creating labels to (more…)

Your consignment shop staff wants to learn!

They want to learn… and you can learn how to manage staff too! Click for TGtbT’s best advice on that.

Let us all pause here and have a moment of appreciation for the people who work in consignment, resale, and thrift shops.

Not only do they have all the duties of a “real store” employee: helping customers, keeping stock neat, chasing down those dust bunnies and clearing our messy dressing rooms…

…but they also must¬†have an encyclopedic knowledge of the wide range of brands, styles, and fits every resale shop offers, and in many cases, they have to know what is acceptable and how much it’s worth.

And they really want to learn. Studies show that one of the main sources of job satisfaction is the opportunity to feel competent. To show your appreciation of their enthusiasm,

provide your people with the info they need to do their jobs well.

Here’s my “unboxing” Facebook Live Video. It’s my first real attempt, and you’ll notice how silly I am. Oh, you didn’t notice where I stumbled, or made errors, or whatever?

That’s what I wanted to show you. That just like in real life, you get caught up in listening and watching, and the everyday goofs we all make, are not the things you particularly see or hear.

Perhaps me, making a silly fool of myself, will inspire YOU to try a live video or two. I hope so!
