Did you offer “BOO” Bucks?

October 28, 2014 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

A super-smart promo: Boo Bucks! One of my West Coast buddies, Linda of Periwinkle’s, had a fun promotion in October. Definitely something for

your shop’s promotional calendar in 2015!

Periwinkle was offering Boo Bucks, $1 for every $10 spent in October.*

Customers earned double on Halloween stuff, and during a late October downtown event, and also on Oct 31)…**

The Boo bucks were redeemable anytime before Thanksgiving***, or as they said: “Then in November SHOP with Boo Bucks–spend one BB for every real dollar you give us.” ****

Why Kate likes this idea so much:

* That is, offering a future reward of 10% or less on what they spent today.

** Offering double that, if folks buy stuff that has a limited shelf life or if they buy when they’re at the community festival, or if they purchase on the actual holiday. All of these choices instigate more sales.

*** Redeemable before Thanksgiving helps them remember your shop when they might be sidetracked by holiday gift buying.

**** And finally, those Boo Bucks are only good for 1/2 the purchase price of whatever they’re buying in the first 3 weeks of November. So the Boo Bucks are actually chits good for that dollar amount in half-off offer… And: using the phrase “every real dollar you give us” implies that cash sales are maybe mandatory? Or at least, strongly encouraged, thus helping the gross profit by not having a credit card surcharge to add to the shop’s overhead.

Full disclosure: I like Boo Bucks even better than Creepy Coupons. What do you think? You can comment below… folks say commenting on blog posts makes you immune to vampires, ghosts and zombies.

[…] And look how smart they are: they even got the shop name, phone number, and URL in the photo! Kudos to the new-ish owner of Periwinkle’s in Oregon. Oh, and look here… the previous owner/ founder of Periwinkle’s won a previous Too Good to be Threw Kudos with her Boo Bucks! […]

Thanks so much for the “atta girl,” Kate. We are having boo-dles of fun with boo bucks until Santa Bucks start on Black Friday (redeemable in January, of course). Our customers literally count on them. I hope your hip is mending nicely–in time to dance a Christmas jig!
