Is the first thing you think of, when people won’t do what you want them to do, to make a new rule they must obey in order to patronize your business?
If so you have a Napoleon complex.
You know: Submit (more…)
A weekend’s worth of reading for consignment, resale, and thrift shopkeepers.

I can’t think of a more profitable way to spend your weekend than by learning something new that will help your business grow.
This collection of articles from Cascade Business News, which is kind enough to maintain a page of good advice, has something for everyone, whether you own a high-end consignment shop, have a buy-outright resale shop, or work in, manage, or volunteer in a non-profit thrift store.
And there’s more, resale-specific ideas, in Auntie Kate’s Messy Back Room.

The kerfuffle that ate my Sunday
Posted in I've been meaning to tell you, Shopkeeping talk on July 10, 2011| 2 Comments »
I awoke on a sunny (finally, after all that rain!) and beautifully-lazy Sunday morning. Looking forward to a brunch of Polter’s Cottage-cheese Pancakes and strawberry butter. Then a swim, then a walk at sunset on the country’s #1 beach, then maybe a flirtation with Masterpiece Theater.
So I sat down to my computer, coffee mug beside me. One hour, I said to myself, to answer emails and work on TGtbT.com. Then a lazy, glorious Sunday awaited me.
Alas, it was not to be.
Who knew you could actually, really, break software? After 4 hours, I figured out what I had done and how to reverse the damage I had done to my word-processing program. Sweat and tears and a wasted Sunday, but I got it done. Then came the reckoning:
Re-doing 3 weeks of work.
Sure I had backups. Trouble was, my backups were 3 weeks old, and if you’re in the resale industry, you can imagine how much I had changed my files in the past 3 weeks before, during, and after NARTS Conference.
So, if you’re waiting for something from me, forgive me. The kerfuffle ate my homework. While you wait, maybe you’d like to backup your files.
