It’s funny, how a simple email subject line can make you feel really, well, close to a company.

Excellent subject line.

This is a simple acknowledgement that my e-order is being fulfilled. Thousands of companies send out hundreds of thousands of acknowledgement emails a day. But the message I got is

You have great taste!

And isn’t that a nice compliment to receive? Try it today on those folks who come up to your sales counter and give you their money. Watch them light up. Feel how much warmer they’ll feel about your shop.

Perfect Reason Not to Open a Resale or Consignment Shop

Here’s a message I came across recently:

“[A]ll I want to do is stay home with my family. That’s the whole reason I’m giving this business thinga go. I just want to get to the point that I can hire someone and only have to be there a couple days a week myself.”

I didn’t even know how to reply to this remark. Except: It’s a lot easier and cheaper to, uh, just stay home with the family.

Jewelry Up Close & Personal

One of the most profitable things you can sell in your shop is jewelry. Why? Well, if you follow the advice in the Manual, the mark-up can be terrific; jewelry takes up little space so your dollars per square foot can reach into the thousands; and because, well because jewelry fits most everyone!
