Superbowl Sunday: Easiest Consignment Shop Promo Ever!
Posted in economics of resale, Shopkeeping talk, tagged advertising, promotions, resale shopkeeping, web on December 27, 2014| 1 Comment »
Superbowl Sunday is coming up… so it’s a good time, right now, to get your ducks (your pigskins?) in a row.
Your clientele either LOVES Superbowl… or hates it and would
LOVE to get out of the house and enjoy a sports-free Sunday afternoon at your shop.
And the seasonal timing is just right for your end-of-winter clearance, your resortwear preview presentation, or your let’s-think-spring special accepting event. No price-cutting is even required… although a few refreshments and hourly door prizes could be a draw!
For fun, I highly recommend the idea in this Pin:

One of the hardest items to display in your home goods/ furniture consignment or resale shop is bedspreads, heavy drapes, blankets. You want to hang them so people can see them… but they are way too heavy to use standard hangers, even if you double or triple a heavy-gauge drapery hanger.
Here’s an idea some volunteer came up with at a local thrift I visit. Yes, it’s bulky… but so are those bedspreads. I’m betting these PVC pipe hangers result in much-faster sell-thru for these home textiles… which is what we all want!
Here’s hoping there’s a handy-person in your life to make some of these for your shop!
Create a New Year’s gift to clients that’s a business booster too!

Starting the New Year off right: Most everyone resolves to get organized every year. And as resale shopkeepers, we each resolve to make the coming year better, profit-wise, than the last. Here’s an idea that’s easily done and can suit every type of shop, fromthe most elegant to the most down-home:
Help your customers keep their homes organized and clutter-free.
You can share tips in SO many ways, most of which cost little, ALL of which might motivate both your suppliers and your shoppers to become regulars at your business. You can use short tips in your social media, create graphics to use on Pinterest or Instagram, write blog posts (or start a series of organizing posts called, maybe, Mess-less Mondays?) or even write a booklet to hand out in your shop as a New Year’s gift or gift with purchase. You can even add ongoing tips to your shop’s mobile app or text them out, use tips as a broadcast email, or publish an e-book!
It’s easy… all you need are some tip resources to pick and choose from and an eye towards creating tips which show your shop’s personality and which help your audience to stay clutter-free with the services your shop can provide!
Here’s over 1000 tips, chosen especially for those who love resale and brought to you by the Professional Resale Shop Sponsors of the Resale Shop Directory.
What to give your favorite shopkeeper (even if it’s yourself)

A simple, earth-friendly, and genuinely-useful gift for that friendly shopkeeper down the road, or in the next town. Something your recipient will use over and over again, all year long.
That’s all you ask.
Bonus points if it can be made with little cash and a little loving attention.
This idea’s so simple, and so useful… you’ll want a set for your own shop as well. (Or, simply print this post out and leave it around the house. Chances are someone is wondering what you could possibly need for Christmas…) (more…)
